A 1.51 carat oval natural sapphire in deep Royal Blue, held by four yellow gold claws, opens at the heart of a water lily in 18K white gold. Eight pear-cut sapphires radiate around it between finely engraved gold petals, and the small touch of warmth in the claws draws the eye straight to the blue.
Pavé diamond petals and claw-set round diamonds edge the flower, and South African full-cut diamonds continue along each shoulder of the polished band. Reported by GUILD — a statement ring for an engagement or anniversary, and a lasting September birthstone gift.

Sapphire is hard-wearing, but a sharp knock can still chip it. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and skip ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as the fine pavé and side stones can loosen. Store on its own in a soft pouch, so the petals do not catch, and have the claws and pavé checked yearly.
