DANFÉE · The Diamond Edit

Find your diamond, then choose the jewelry you love. Start with this simple guide to shape, the 4Cs and size before comparing necklaces, rings, studs and bracelets.

Part I. Diamond Selection Guide

1. How to Choose Your Diamond

Set your budget, then compare the 4Cs: cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Finish by choosing your preferred shape and checking the individual diamond's photographs, video and report.

Cut: brightness and sparkle

Cut describes how a diamond is fashioned and interacts with light. Compare sparkle in motion, proportions and the report's cut assessment.

GIA cut grades: Excellent · Very Good · Good · Fair · Poor.

The profiles illustrate depth only; they do not determine a cut grade. GIA's overall cut grade applies to standard round brilliant diamonds in the D–Z range. Assess fancy shapes individually.

Color: compare the visible difference

The D–Z scale describes increasing color. Compare diamonds under similar lighting and with your chosen metal before paying for a higher grade.

Illustrations show a simplified color progression, not calibrated grades. The normal color range can include yellow, brown or gray; fancy-color diamonds are evaluated differently.

Clarity: check what you can see

Clarity considers inclusions and surface blemishes under 10× magnification. Compare the report with close-up images and ask whether any characteristics are visible at a normal viewing distance.

These symbols explain the concept only. A clarity grade depends on the size, nature, position and visibility of characteristics, not their count alone. No grade by itself guarantees an eye-clean appearance.

Carat: weight and visible size

1 ct = 0.2 g. Carat measures weight. Compare actual dimensions for visible size, and check whether the stated weight is per stone, the center stone or the total for the piece.

Dimensions are transcribed from the supplied reference chart. Inch equivalents are calculated by DANFÉE and rounded to three decimal places. These are approximate educational examples, not specifications for every diamond. Check the individual stone's laboratory report and product measurements; images are not displayed at actual size.

3. Carat and size: millimeters and inches

Open a shape below to view all nine weights from 0.25 to 5.00 ct. Round values show approximate diameter. The single values for princess, Asscher and heart follow the width listed in the reference chart; other shapes use length × width.

1 in = 25.4 mm. Millimeters are commonly used in both US and European jewelry specifications; inches are an additional reference. Carat measures weight, so equal carat weights can have different visible dimensions.

3. Decide between natural and laboratory-grown diamonds

Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds have different origins. Laboratory-grown diamonds have essentially the same chemical composition, crystal structure and physical and optical properties as natural diamonds. Moissanite and cubic zirconia are different materials.

Source: GIA: Natural and Laboratory-Grown Diamonds.

Make origin an explicit part of your comparison, then assess the individual stone's quality, design and price. A photograph alone cannot reliably establish origin. Look for clear product disclosure and a report identifying the diamond.

At DANFÉE, we provide IGI reports for our laboratory-grown diamonds and GIA reports for our natural diamonds. Check the individual product's specifications and accompanying report details.

The Advantages of Lab-Grown Diamonds

  • A more accessible price. Lab-grown diamonds generally cost less than natural diamonds of comparable size and quality, offering greater flexibility within your budget. Prices vary by stone and retailer.
  • More room for your preferred size and quality. A lower purchase price can make a larger stone or preferred color and clarity characteristics more attainable. Compare cut and measurements as carefully as carat weight.
  • Diamond brilliance and durability. Lab-grown diamonds offer essentially the same optical and physical properties as natural diamonds. Their beauty still depends on the individual stone and its cutting quality; both require care to avoid chipping.
  • More freedom to complete your design. Savings on the gemstone can leave room for your preferred precious metal, setting and craftsmanship, or help you build a coordinated jewelry collection.

Part II. Jewelry Selection Guide

1. Diamond Necklaces

DANFÉE diamond necklace collection image showing a round diamond pendant worn with a navy dress
Diamond necklace styling from the DANFÉE collection. Consider the pendant's dimensions, chain length and neckline together. Use the individual product's measurements for your selection.

Necklace lengths: US and metric reference

Length · inches Length · centimeters
16 in 40.6 cm
18 in 45.7 cm
20 in 50.8 cm
22 in 55.9 cm

These are unit conversions, not promises about where a necklace will sit. Measure a necklace you like, including its clasp, and compare the available length and extender. Product specifications take precedence.

2. Diamond Rings

Diamond ring styling: consider band width, finger proportions and comfort alongside the stone. Image is a style reference; use the individual product's measurements.

How to measure your ring size

Use either the inside diameter of a ring that fits or your finger circumference. Keep these two measurements separate, then open the matching country or size-system row below.

Method 1: measure a ring you already own
Ring viewed from above with an arrow spanning the inner opening and guides aligned to a millimeter ruler
Measure straight across the inside opening. Exclude the metal edges. Example: 16.5 mm (0.650 in).
  1. Choose a ring that fits the same finger on the same hand.
  2. Lay it flat and measure across the widest part of its inside opening, from inner edge to inner edge.
  3. Match the result to the inside-diameter column in the appropriate country table.
Method 2: measure your finger with a paper strip
A paper strip wrapped around a finger with its overlap point marked
1. Wrap a narrow, non-stretch strip around the finger and mark the overlap.
A flattened paper strip aligned with zero on a millimeter ruler, showing the marked length
2. Flatten the strip and measure from zero to the mark. Example: 51.9 mm (2.043 in).
  1. Wrap a narrow strip of paper snugly around your finger, without pressing into the skin.
  2. Mark the overlap, then flatten the strip and measure from its starting end to the mark in millimeters.
  3. Use the inside-circumference column below. Check that the fit also allows the ring to pass over your knuckle.

Example: an inside diameter of about 16.5 mm (0.650 in), or a circumference of about 51.9 mm (2.043 in), corresponds to approximately US 6 / EU 52.

Repeat the measurement at a comfortable room temperature. Paper-strip measurements are approximate; confirm the final fit with a professional ring sizer, especially for wide bands or measurements between sizes. These drawings explain the method and are not printable or on-screen measuring tools. Click any diagram to enlarge.

Ring sizes by country and size system

Choose the same country or size-system group as on the diamond-ring product page, then open its row below. The size labels follow the options offered by DANFÉE.

US / Canada measurements are shown in mm and inches. Europe uses mm. The UK / Australia / New Zealand, Italy / Spain, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan tables use mm and cm. Identical numbers in different systems do not necessarily indicate the same fit. Compare a ring with the inside-diameter column, or a paper-strip measurement with the inside-circumference column. Confirm the final size with a professional ring sizer.

3. Diamond Stud Earrings

Diamond studs: size and balance

Compare the diamond's diameter with the full setting width and consider how the earring sits on the ear. Check whether the quoted weight applies to one diamond or the pair.

4. Diamond Bracelets

Diamond bracelet worn around the wrist
Diamond bracelet styling: consider its finished width, fit and freedom of movement. Confirm the length and clasp details of your chosen design.

A diamond bracelet should feel comfortable as your wrist moves. Choose between a continuous line of stones, such as a tennis bracelet, and a lighter chain design featuring one or several diamonds. Compare the complete piece: its width, flexibility, weight and fastening all contribute to how it wears.

Length and fit: measure your wrist first

Measure your wrist before choosing a diamond tennis or chain bracelet. Wrist circumference and finished bracelet length are different: the bracelet also needs room for comfortable movement.

Three steps: wrap a strip around the wrist and mark the overlap; read the marked strip against a centimeter ruler; measure a diamond tennis bracelet including its clasp.
Three-step measuring guide by DANFÉE. The ruler shows an example wrist measurement of 16.0 cm (6.30 in). Click to enlarge; the drawings are not actual-size measuring tools.
  1. Wrap and mark. Place a flexible tape or narrow, non-stretch paper strip around the wrist where the bracelet will sit, checking the wrist joint as well. Keep it snug without pressing into the skin. With a strip, mark where the end overlaps.
  2. Read your wrist measurement. Flatten the strip and measure from its starting end to the mark, aligning the start with zero on a ruler. Record the length in centimeters or inches. The illustrated example is 16.0 cm (6.30 in).
  3. Check the finished bracelet length. Lay a flexible bracelet that already fits comfortably flat, then measure from end to end, including the clasp as illustrated. Confirm how the chosen product measures its finished length, along with its adjustment range and clasp.

A flexible bracelet should move comfortably without feeling tight or slipping too far over the hand. Do not order a bracelet equal to your bare wrist measurement without checking its design and fit. Send DANFÉE your wrist measurement and preferred fit if you need help choosing a length. A cuff or rigid bangle needs its own sizing method.

Total carat weight does not mean one large diamond

For a multi-stone bracelet, total carat weight is the combined weight of its diamonds. As an arithmetic example, 50 equal diamonds totaling 3.00 ct would average 0.06 ct each. That example does not describe a particular DANFÉE bracelet.

Compare the stone count, individual dimensions and finished width as well as total weight. A longer bracelet can distribute the same total weight among more stones. A single-diamond chain bracelet should clearly identify its main stone's weight.

Look for an even line of sparkle

For a tennis bracelet, look for visually consistent color, stone size and brightness along its length. View it laid flat and in motion. Prong settings leave more of each stone visible; bezel settings surround the stone with a metal rim. Examine the quality and comfort of the individual setting rather than choosing by its name alone.

Check the clasp and everyday comfort

Ask how the clasp closes, whether a secondary safety catch is included, and how the links move. Check for rough edges or areas that catch on clothing. Inspect the fastening and settings regularly; have a jeweler address a loose stone or unreliable clasp before wearing the bracelet again.

Confirm whether any supplied report covers the finished bracelet or particular stones. Do not assume that every small diamond has its own individual grading report.

Part III. Verify the report before you buy

  1. Locate the report number. Read the stone's stated origin, shape, weight, measurements and grading results.
  2. Use the laboratory's official site: IGI Report Verification or GIA Report Check.
  3. Compare the record. Confirm it agrees with the report and product description, including any treatment comments.
  4. Match the stone when needed. A jeweler or laboratory can compare the physical diamond with its report, including a laser inscription where present.

A valid online record alone does not prove that a particular stone is the one described. A grading report documents characteristics; it is not a price appraisal or a guarantee of future resale value.

Part IV. Diamond Care and Maintenance

Thoughtful care helps preserve your jewelry's sparkle and keeps its setting secure. Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds need similar care; always consider the metal, other gemstones and any treatments in the finished piece.

1. Clean gently at home

For untreated diamond jewelry with a secure setting, use lukewarm water, a little mild dish soap and a soft, clean brush. Gently remove buildup, rinse in a bowl rather than over an open drain, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Follow the jeweler's instructions for mixed-gemstone or treated pieces.

2. Protect it during everyday wear

Remove jewelry before heavy exercise, gardening or housework. Avoid impacts, bleach and abrasive cleaners. Put jewelry on after applying cosmetics to reduce buildup. Diamond resists scratching, but a hard knock can chip it or damage the setting.

3. Store each piece separately

Use individual soft pouches or lined compartments to prevent diamonds from scratching other jewelry. Keep chains separated to reduce tangling.

4. Check settings and clasps regularly

If a stone moves, a prong catches or a clasp feels insecure, stop wearing the piece and have a jeweler inspect it. Arrange professional checks according to wear and the setting's condition.

Leave ultrasonic and steam cleaning to a professional. These methods can loosen stones or damage certain treated gems. A jeweler should assess the entire piece first.
